Has anyone heard of 'Shatter the Darkness Minitries'? It was started
by Joe Viera (spelling?) in Worcester County, Massachusetts.
It started off with 'Rock Talks' about the influence of Rock-n-Roll
music and especially the Satanic influences found in many Heavy
Metal songs.
From this beginning Joe has created yet another seminar called
'Unmaksing the many faces of Satanism'. Public schools, law
enforcement agencies, and churches from all over America from Boston
to Anchorage, Alaska want Joe to do his seminars in their area.
He has the community awareness seminars, as well as a ministry to
Christian teens. Joe is planning to hold Teens convention in Worcester
in March of 1990 to teach teens about doing spiritual warfare and
encouraging them in their walk with the Lord.
I do not have the address of the ministry in the office, but I will
get it.

The Rock-n-Roll music that Joe is mainly targetting is that of groups
that are professed Satanists and that have references to Satan in
the songs and the effect that it has on impressionable teens.

was called "Crossroads" and was located in Sudbury. The fellow
who ran it was an Engineer from Raytheon who left to run it
as a full time ministry. Does anyone know if it is still in

The ministry your're refering to is called "Crossroads, Intl" (to
distinguish it from other ministries with similar names), and yes,
they are still around. They have moved their headquarters to
Framingham, Ma, and now have two or three Crossroads Alliances in
other New England states.

Last year my church youth group hosted Joe for an evening of RockTalks.
Joe spoke for over three hours to over 150 people from the community.
3-5 people got up and left during his presentation, a very few said
they were disappointed, and about 145 said they wanted to hear much
more from him. Quite a reccomendation and quite a presentation.
Joe is an articulate speaker, with an incredible command of facts
and trivia about the Bible, music, satanism, and more. Teenagers
love him.
Joe will be speaking at 7:30 on March 21 in the Londonderry, NH
junior high school on the demonic influence of "Dungeons and Dragons"
fantasy gaming. All are invited.

I am not informed well enough to either defend or attack D&D as
promoted by DSR.
This is currently a hot topic in Londonderry, because:
- satanic activities in the High-school have been steadily rising
- D&D is offered as elective coursework in the Junior high
It remains to be proven that there is a connection.
However, my contact with area teenagers (7 years as a Christian
youth group leader) suggests that many of them believe that there
is a satanic/demonic influence in D&D. If they believe in such an
influence and continue to play, I submit that the influence is
established.
I plan to listen to Joe and do some additional research to further
establish my opinion. (Perhaps another discussion topic.)

And I submit that it is not.
Oh well, go in peace. The kids will start playing again anyway when they go
to college. (Unless D&D is passé by then).
